In the decades since 9/11, one of the most powerful ways we’ve chosen to honor those we lost is through service—turning remembrance into impact and pain into purpose. The 9/11 Day of Service has united millions of Americans in acts of kindness, demonstrating that even in our most difficult moments, community remains our greatest strength.

At NEST4US, 9/11 Day of Service holds deep meaning, as we have commemorated this day each year by engaging volunteers of all ages in service projects that uplift our neighbors in need. We’ve loved joining hands with amazing partners, volunteers, and community leaders, including Agape Love in Action, Youth Service America, and more, to honor the legacy of 9/11 through compassion-driven service. Additionally, Virginia Delegate David Reid and District 32 Virginia Senator Kannan Srinivasan’s powerful remarks and presence highlighted how uniting government and community efforts can strengthen civic engagement.

Our initiatives—ranging from distributing various essential resources through our community distributions to assembling thousands of food bags at large-scale packing events—have shown that when people come together for good, the effects ripple far beyond a single day.

Each project, whether big or small, reaffirms a simple truth: service connects us. Through hands-on action, we honor those we lost by strengthening the bonds that hold our communities together. After all, every action serves as a quiet tribute to the resilience and compassion that define our collective humanity.
9/11 Day of Service reminds us that heroism is not only found in moments of crisis—it’s found every time someone chooses to show up, lend a hand, and make a difference. And that’s exactly the type of legacy we at NEST4US hope to carry forward into the years to come!
